How to Market Yourself as a Wedding Photographer

Wedding photography is a competitive field, but there are many things you can do to market yourself, stand out, and attract new clients. Here are a few tips:

  1. Create a website and portfolio. Your website is your online home, so it's important to make it a great representation of your work. Make sure your photos are high-quality and well-edited, and that your website is easy to navigate. You should also include a portfolio of your work, so potential clients can see what you're capable of.
  2. Get involved in online communities. There are many online communities for wedding photographers, such as forums, social media groups, and websites. Getting involved in these communities is a great way to network with other photographers, learn about the latest trends, and get your work seen by potential clients.
  3. Offer discounts and promotions. When you're first starting out, it can be helpful to offer discounts and promotions to attract new clients. This could involve offering a free engagement session, a discount on your wedding photography package, or a referral program. One way I really liked was using Groupon! This brought tons of traffic to my site that I normally would have had to pay for.
  4. Attend industry events. Attending industry events is a great way to network with other photographers, learn about the latest trends, and get your work seen by potential clients. There are many different types of industry events, such as conferences, trade shows, and workshops. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of networking! Even as an introvert, I now jump at the opportunity to network every chance I get because of how helpful it is?!!
  5. Create a blog. A blog is a great way to share your thoughts on photography, wedding planning, and anything else related to weddings. It's also a great way to connect with potential clients and build relationships. This blog post is how you got here right? Amiright? ;)
  6. Get featured in publications. Getting featured in publications is a great way to get your work seen by a wider audience. There are many different types of publications that feature wedding photography, such as magazines, websites, and blogs. It is so rewarding to see your work be published physically! Not only is it great to get your name, brand, and message out, but it is intrinsically rewarding to see your work in new mediums.
  7. Run social media ads. Social media ads can be a great way to reach a large audience of potential clients. When running social media ads, be sure to target your ads to people who are interested in weddings.
  8. Lastly, yet probably most importantly, be patient. It takes time to build a successful wedding photography business. Don't expect to be booked solid right away. Be patient and keep working hard, and eventually you'll start to see your business grow.

By following these tips, and maybe creating a few extra tips on your own, you can market yourself as a wedding photographer and attract new clients. Just remember to be patient, be persistent, and be creative. With a little hard work and dedication, you can make your dream of becoming a successful wedding photographer a reality.
